Suspect in Rihanna shooting case loses custody of child

Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, the suspect arrested and charged in connection with the March 8 shooting at Rihanna’s Los Angeles mansion, has lost custody of her child.

Per the ruling from a Florida judge, Ortiz will no longer have any contact with her child until the court makes another decision, TMZ reported. She can only have contact with her child if the father personally gives the green light to it. The court granted the child’s father 100% time-sharing, so he has full custody, and the child’s daily life rests under his management.

Ortiz’s custody case did not stem from the Rihanna shooting incident, as she was initially put under involuntary psychiatric hold in Florida. And though Ortiz cited false accusations as the reason for her detention, the judge highlighted concerns.

Ortiz’s main custody battle has since been put on hold. The court will revisit that case after her criminal case for Rihanna’s shooting comes to a close.

Following her arrest in connection with the Rihanna shooting, Ortiz was charged with one count of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling. She entered a not guilty plea to all the charges brought against her. Ortiz is being held without bond.

Ortiz was said to be armed with an AR-15 style rifle when she repeatedly fired shots at Rihanna’s mansion. The Diamonds singer together with her partner, A$AP Rocky, and their three children were at home at the time of the shooting.

Following the alleged incident, Ortiz fled the scene but was quickly apprehended in Sherman Oaks.

PEOPLE obtained a criminal complaint detailing that the shooting was “willful, deliberate, and premeditated.” Ortiz faces a potential life sentence in state prison if convicted of all charges.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a press release, “Opening fire in any populated neighborhood is extremely dangerous, puts lives at risk and will be fully prosecuted. Thankfully, no one was injured in this shooting, but this careless violence will not be tolerated in our community. Such shooters will find their next destination to be our jails and prisons.”

According to the Los Angeles Times, the accused is a Florida resident with previous arrests. A Facebook profile that seems to belong to Ortiz contains multiple posts about Rihanna. For instance, in a February 23 post, she directly addressed the singer, writing, “say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me.”
