Megan Thee Stallion breaks down on stage after announcing breakup with Klay Thompson
Grammy-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Pete, 31, has announced the end of her relationship with Dallas Mavericks player Klay Thompson, 36. In a statement released Saturday, April 25, the rapper confirmed she broke up with Thompson several months after the pair went public with their relationship.
“I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay,” Megan told People in a statement. “Trust, fidelity, and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward. I’m taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.”
The statement came after she posted a message on her Instagram Stories, seemingly accusing Thompson of “cheating” and declaring she needed a “break” from him.
“Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house… got ‘cold feet,’” she wrote in her post over a black background.

“Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season, now you don’t know if you can be ‘monogamous????’ ” she continued. “Bitch I need a REAL break after this one… bye yall.”
Although she didn’t explicitly name Thompson in her post, the rapper and the NBA star had publicly confirmed their relationship. In recent months, Megan had shared numerous affectionate photos with the Dallas Mavericks player, including a mirror selfie from late March where he was pictured holding her waist.
Additionally, for her birthday in February, Thompson gave Megan a powder-blue Bentley, and they also marked the occasion with a tropical getaway.
At the time, the rapper expressed her enjoyment of the trip on Instagram, captioning a post, “Aw man, I was not ready for this birthday trip to be over. A time was definitely had THANK YOU BABY.”
Speaking to People in January, the “HISS” rapper discussed her relationship with Thompson, noting that it began unexpectedly.
“Well, I don’t never want to tell [anybody] to just jump in a relationship just because everybody else got one, and I’m not going to tell you to just jump in a relationship because you have to,” Megan said. “I didn’t even know I was going to be in my relationship, to be honest.”
Megan added that since entering the relationship, however, “This is one of the first times that I’ve ever been just overly comfortable.”
Megan and Thompson’s relationship went public last summer, culminating in a red carpet appearance at her Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala on July 16 in New York City. At the gala, Megan called Thompson the “nicest person I’ve ever met in my life.”
During her final Saturday night performance as Zidler in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” the “Savage” rapper was visibly emotional, wiping away tears on stage. Fans reacted with a standing ovation as she closed the show, an incident reported by Page Six.
The Grammy winner turned away from the audience, attempting to hold back tears, as a fan shouted, “We love you!”
Megan received a lot of support after the video’s release, including from basketball star Angel Reese and rapper Monaleo.
