Clark Atlanta student claims Lyft driver stole her cash, ID, other items: ‘took everything that I have’
Kamyriana Wilson, a Clark Atlanta University freshman, reported that a weekend rideshare trip resulted in her wallet disappearing. The incident has raised concerns among students about the safety of using rideshare services, especially late at night.
Wilson told 11 Alive that it was “really irritating” that the driver took her wallet instead of returning it, adding, “To know that she took my wallet without even having a heart to say, let me go turnaround and give her, her wallet back.”
She added, “As being the broke college student that I am, she took everything that I have, from identification to money, $125 worth of college keys.”
According to Wilson, the situation intensified shortly thereafter when she noticed an attempted $175 charge on her debit card at a nearby Chevron gas station.
She said, “Stealing from a college student, stealing from anybody at all, that’s just messed up. I hope she gets what she deserves.”
Wilson said she attempted multiple times to reach the driver when she realized that her wallet was missing. She said she signaled the driver to stop, contacted them via the Lyft app (both calling and messaging), and even used another phone to call, but received no response.
Although she contacted Lyft’s customer support, she found the process to be frustrating.
Wilson recalled, “When I tried to contact Lyft Support, they kept on telling me to repeat the situation, they kept asking for the same information that I already provided and on top of that, they called me Kimberly and said that I lost an iPhone.”
Following the incident, Wilson reported the matter to the police by calling 911 and filed an official report.
Lyft’s policy, as outlined in its Help Center, advises riders to immediately contact their driver after forgetting an item. However, the company explicitly states that it is not responsible for offering insurance, replacements, or reimbursements for lost possessions.
In response to the reported incident, a Lyft spokesperson informed 11Alive that the company is treating the matter with utmost seriousness.
They wrote, “We take reports like this very seriously and are actively gathering more information. We have reached out to both the rider and the driver to further investigate.”

Lyft faced negative publicity in 2025 after a viral incident led to a lawsuit. Detroit rapper Dank Demoss (born Dajua Blanding) sued the ride-share company, alleging weight discrimination after a driver refused to pick her up and canceled the ride.
At the time, the self-proclaimed “plus-size rapper” alleged in her lawsuit that the driver’s actions amounted to illegal discrimination based on her weight.
