American sprinter Allyson Felix has announced that she will be coming out of retirement and is seeking to compete in the 2028 Summer Olympics set to take place in Los Angeles, according to American media reports.

According to a report by TIME, the sprinter is set to resume training, with plans already in the pipeline to implement a training schedule with her longtime coach Bobby Kersee in October.

The 40-year-old Felix, who retired from the sport in April 2022, is, however, not planning to compete regularly on the global track and field circuit in order to be close to her two children.

“So many of us have been told not to do the big, bold thing,” Felix told TIME in an interview.

“You know, at this age, I should probably be staying home and taking care of my kids, doing all that. And just, why not? Let’s flip it on its head. Let’s go after the thing. Let’s be vulnerable,” she added.
