HIGHGATE, ST MARY — The St Mary police are investigating the death of 51-year-old Bevin Hamilton, otherwise known as Googie, a former teacher of Clonmel Primary School, who was found unresponsive in his home on Thursday.

Hamilton, who reportedly lived with his mother, was discovered by a relative sometime around 5:00 pm.

The Highgate police are treating his death as a suspected suicide.

A resident who knew the deceased for several years told Observer Online that he had a history of mental health challenges.

“When he was working at the school, his head chipped, and he started attacking everyone verbally. The police had to be called in,” the resident said, noting that the school administration also sought help for him.

It is reported that his wife recently left the matrimonial home because of his behaviour.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reminding the public of the importance of seeking help for mental health challenges and is encouraging anyone experiencing emotional distress to reach out to trusted individuals or professional services.
