Woman shocked after DMV flags her for possible fraud because of a doppelgänger
A seemingly routine visit to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) took a surprising turn for Anderson resident Erika Brown. While renewing her license, Brown was astonished when the BMV’s facial recognition technology flagged her picture, suggesting the possibility of fraud and sparking an awkward search for her real-life look-alike.
A Fraud and Security Enforcement investigator contacted Brown after the incident. They requested she attend an interview and provide further documentation to verify her identity before the new license could be issued.
The process involved a side-by-side photo comparison, her picture on the left and, on the right, a picture of a different woman registered at another Indiana address. The likeness between them was extraordinary, and they were also the same age.

Brown told Fox 59, “What are the odds that we look so similar, live in the same place, and have never crossed paths?”
Brown was deeply unsettled by the remarkable resemblance, leading her to consider the possibility that the woman could be her long-lost twin.
“I’m an only child, so no one really looks like me,” she explained. “Seeing someone who looks so much like me was really strange and bizarre. No one had ever told me, ‘you look like so-and-so.’”
Hoping social media will help her locate the mystery woman, she has now launched a search for her doppelgänger on TikTok.
Netizens were quick to respond and share their thoughts about the situation.
One person noted, “That’s probably my biggest fear , but also really cool. I’ll be on the look out! Where you from? I’m in Indiana.”
Another wrote, “Whaaaaaat!??! I’ve never heard of this before! I SO need you to find her!”
Brown told Fox 59, “I want to meet her, be in the same room, and know who she is.” “Does she have a family? What do her parents look like? How does something like this even happen genetically?”

Brown’s case has finally been resolved, and she received her new license after nearly three months of back-and-forth, though many questions are still unanswered.
Situations like hers are relatively common. In fact, the BMV’s Fraud and Security Enforcement Division investigates over 500 such cases annually, the outlet reported.
This figure represents a portion of the 1.6 million ID credential transactions handled annually.
Meanwhile, in another video captioned, “We found her!” Brown told her followers she had located the woman. However, she added that, for privacy reasons, she wouldn’t release any details, though she disclosed that the woman is no longer an Indiana resident.
