Indiana mayor’s son found asleep at McDonald’s drive-thru, charged with drunk driving
Christian Roberson, the son of Elkhart, Indiana Mayor Rod Roberson, was arrested and charged with drunk driving after he was found sleeping at a McDonald’s drive-thru in the wee hours of Saturdays.
Per ABC 57, the Elkhart Police Department said that in the early hours of Saturday, officers arrived at a McDonald’s at 130 N. Main St. to investigate a report about a medical issue that could not be established.
Upon arrival officers found a driver who had fallen asleep in a Kia Optima after parking at the drive-thru section. The driver was later identified as Christian, 35, and the officers observed he was showing signs of suspected impairment after they got close to him.
Elkhart Fire Department medics also arrived at the scene, though Christian did not make mention of experiencing any medical issues, per the report.

Christian ultimately underwent field sobriety tests and a portable breath test at the scene, and that was done by one of the responding officers. His blood was later drawn after he was taken to the hospital. That was done when authorities obtained a judicial search warrant for a certified blood draw after filing an application.
Though police said that those results were yet to be made available at the time of this report, Christian is facing a preliminary charge of Operating While Intoxicated with Prior. The charge is a Level 6 Felony.
“This weekend, our son was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated. Regina and I love and will support him unconditionally through this difficult time. That being said, driving under the influence is dangerous and unacceptable. We believe in accountability, and our son will face this matter through the appropriate legal process,” Mayor Roberson said in a statement after his son’s arrest.
